Acton Academy is an innovative education model with over 400 schools all over the world. Acton Academy Kingwood has a brand new facility on two acres in Porter, TX. We combine the Montessori method with Socratic guiding, hands-on experiential projects, and interactive e-learning software. We strive to create a learning environment that feels like an adventure and keeps the students’ natural spark for learning alive.

At Acton, we have mixed-aged classrooms called "studios" with a self-paced learning design, as opposed to grade-levels. Our real world-oriented quests culminate in a public exhibition of learning, as opposed to test scores and report cards. In all areas of Acton life, our students are empowered to be in the driver’s seat of their learning.

Job Description:

We are currently seeking a guide for our 6-7 year old students. Guides are not teachers in the traditional sense of the word. Guides are coaches and mentors. Our guides are Socratic discussion leaders, imaginative game makers, and role models who love to learn. A guide’s ultimate goals are to equip, connect, and inspire students to explore and take ownership of their learning. The primary responsibility of the lower elementary guide is to facilitate the years of transition between Montessori- style pre-school to independent, Acton-style elementary school. Your students will have elements of both styles each day.

Qualifications:

An ideal candidate will have a deep heart for children and a trust and respect for their ability to learn and grow without heavy adult intervention. He or she must have passion for disruptive education and will be deeply curious and ready to learn and work hard. He or she will be agile with online learning and have excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills. He or she will be both kind-hearted and tough-minded with a calm demeanor.

• A traditional teaching certification is not required. Montessori certification is desirable but not necessary. An interest and respect for both Montessori and Acton style learning is required. Training for the right candidate will be provided by Acton Academy Kingwood and will take place over the summer 2022.
• Experience mentoring, guiding, or coaching mixed-age groups of children is desirable.
• Experience planning and implementing games or projects is desirable.
• A bachelor’s degree in any subject or commensurate experience is desirable.
